In such a device, the ball is carried by the drawbar (1) of the trailer and is fitted with a shank (3) suitable to be inserted and fastened, especially by keying, in a housing (17) provided at the rear of the towing vehicle. This housing (17) is provided in a fastening plate (18) suitable to be made integral with another plate (21) fixed to the chassis of the towing vehicle. The key can be seen at (24) and tends to make the shank (3) move down into the said housing and become wedged there. Application: ball-type coupling for a trailer or the like. <IMAGE>
