Rotary mechanical face seal - has sealing coolant pulled by drag from scroll through helix to pump it through external cooler

The rotary mechanical face seal has generated heat carried away by a fluid. A scroll in the housing induces an axial flow of the coolant along the seal (3, 5). A spring of rectangular wire section is inserted forming a helical body. The helix path above the rotating scroll carries the fluid which is moved by drag screwing it around the helix from inlet to outlet. Preferably the spring has a free outside diameter larger than the housing containing it, so that it is held in place by its own resilience.
