Pneumatic shock absorber for motor vehicle adapted to protect vehicle body and occupant(s) at impact speeds up to 10 km/h by elastic deformation, comprises an extruded deformable, plastics tube filled with compressed air under 0.5 - 5.0 bar, heat-sealed at both ends, and fitted with a valve doubling a relief pressure valve. Advantages include possible mass prodn. with standardised dimensions; saving of relatively costly mounting brackets; free from corrosion; re-usability after minor damage caused by elastic deformation. Can be fitted simply by glueing to smooth flat vehicle body component (which also promotes even distribution of impact energy).
