<p>The rod is 4-16 mmm dia., and is rolled from a steel which can be welded and contains is not >0.3% carbon. The steel is fed through a hot rolling mill train and is then laid in loops on a cooling bed fed with a cooling gas; and the amt. of gas is varied to suit the difference in the amt. of rod on difference zones of the bed. The cooling gas is pref. air supplied by blowers; and the rod may be rolled to obtain a profiled cross-section before being laid on the cooling bed. After cooling, the rod may be cold worked, esp. by straigthenign. The finished rod pref. has a uniform structure of ferrite and pearlite, with yield point >=400 N/mm2, tensile strength >=500 N/mm2, and elongation >=10%.</p> |
