In the process of DT 2825429 for pyrolysis of household and industrial waste by coking in a rotary oven, high temp. cracking of organic constituents in the product gas, quenching and washing. The gas is treated to remove carbon black and absorbed contaminants, e.g. HCl, NH3, H2S, HCN, phenols, tars, before the washing stage. The load on the gas purification plant is reduced, allowing more economic operation, and pollution of the wash water is lessened.
