Polyurethane foam reactants contg. siliconised ammonium phosphate - mixed with fluoro:tri:chloromethane, added to poly:ol and/or poly:isocyanate, as flame retardant

Reactants for prodn. of a polyurethane foam by isocyanate polyaddn. consists of polyisocyanate and polyol, with CFCl3 as blowing agent. The distribution of the CFCl3 between the reactants is such that the viscosities of the isocyanate and the polyol are the same. The novelty is that at least part of the CFCl3 is pre-mixed with ammonium phosphate rendered hydrophobic with silicone. A flame-retardant is incorporated without affecting the viscosity ratio of the reactants. Improved flame-proofing is obtd. Pref. the ammonium phosphate is satd. by spraying with part of the CFCl3, to form a paste, and the paste is added to the polyol and/or to the polyisocyanate. The remainder of the CFCl3 is used to adjust the viscosities of the reactants. In partic., equal amts. of the paste are added to the polyol and to the isocyanate.
