The safety warning system for the cars monitors the relative speeds of following vehicles as well as the varying brake reactions and the reaction time of the driver to calculate the safe spacing. The system operates a warning if the spacing drops below the minimum value. The system uses the extrapolated value of the road grip from the brake reaction relative to the road speed. The system also uses the torque on the driving wheels, so that a safe driving action is ensured. Max. possible torque (mu max.) is calculated, this being achieved at the optimum value of slip (lampda opt.).
