Washing machine water mains connecting fitting - with spool valve interlinked with strainer

A fitting to connect clothes or dish washing machines to the water mains includes a strainer with a guide ring, concentric to a valve spool and attached to a sealing cap which can be screwed on to the valve housing end. Spool and housing are equipped with detents which retain the spool in the OFF position when the sealing cap has been unscrewed to give access to the strainer. When the sealing cap is screwed home again, the detents are deflected and made inoperative so that the spool is thereby automatically moved to the ON position. This simplifies the dismantling of the strainer for cleaning and automatically cuts off the water supply for this operation, followed by restoring it when the operation has been completed.
