1480465 Shaft seals FEDERAL-MOGUL CORP 15 Aug 1975 [16 Sept 1974] 34067/75 Heading F2B The casing 11 of a shaft lip seal is formed with outwardly bent lugs 18 enclosed in elastomer so that, on press-fitting the seal into housing 31, the elastomer 27 is squeezed outwardly into recess 33, by the resilient action of the cylindrical wall of the casing. The circumferential spacing between each pair of lugs is greater than the width of the lug. The resilient action provides a degree of retention which withstands the force transmitted from the shaft by the engagement of multiple sealing lips (23-25, Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) therewith. |
