The furnace with movable supports for special steel comprises a device allowing the material to be heated to effect further feed pitches in the fast heating section while remaining stationary in the preheating section. The average stay duration Tu of the material in the fast heating section is independent from the duration of stay in the preheating section. In order to modulate the average duration Tu of the cycle, the space time Tu, given by the spacing of transport according to A and the duration of the cycle Tu, is already used during the duration Tu and before the change of cycle duration. The location where the evacuation device removes the material from the oven is determined by a measuring instrument or by a follower instrument which controls the evacuation device.
