The tube blank is first of all sealed off fluid-tightly at the filling opening. It is then filled with compressed air and pressed snugly against the mating tapered inner wall of a die (13). The tube (12) formed in this way is checked for cracks, using the same compressed air, before being removed from the die. If there is a crack, the leakage loss activates an indication device or an ejector. The automation made possible in this way allows the potential of the production device to be fully exploited.
