An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to form a uniform liquid crystal layer by hardening liquid crystal molecules and monomer mixtures. A second display panel faces a first display panel. A liquid crystal layer(3) is interposed between the first display panel and the second display panel. The liquid crystal layer includes a first portion including a plurality of liquid crystal molecules, and a second portion placed under the first portion and including a monomer. The first display panel further includes a polymer layer(320) having a superoxide radical. The first display panel includes a substrate, a gate line and a data line intersecting each other on the substrate, a thin film transistor connected to the gate line and the data line. A pixel electrode(191) is connected to the thin film transistor. The polymer layer having a super oxide radical is formed on the pixel electrode.
