PURPOSE:To increase the bleaching power of bleaching bath without giving adverse influence to photographic characteristics by processing the silver halide photosensitive material having undergone color development in the bath containing the specific heterocyclic compound then bleaching the silver in the bleaching bath containing persulfate. CONSTITUTION:The heterocyclic compound incorporated with the alkyl groups substituted with mercapto groups, expressed by general formula I (R1, R2 are H, hydroxyl groups, lower alkyl; A is hetero cycle residual groups of n value; m is 1 to 5; n is 1 to 4), such as formula II, formula III, is added at about 1 to 10g/l to a bath provided before the bleaching solution and after the color developing bath (preferably pH about 2.5 to 9) and the silver halide photographic material is dipped and processed in this bath. Following to this, the photosensitive material is bleached by using a bleaching bath (pH 1.8 to 12) containing about 10 to 120g/l of persulfate (potassium persulfate, ammonium persulfate, etc.), whereby the developing silver is eluted and removed. |
