<p>A two stage vacuum pump has a cylindrical body (1) with a bearing housing (2) for a crankshaft (3). The crankshaft drives a piston (8) by means of a connecting rod (21) fitted inside the piston body. Flexible diaphragms (9) are attached to each end of the piston with their outer edges clamped by the cylinder heads (7, 8). The air or other gas from the vessel to be exhausted, is drawn in through the inlet (15) of the upper diaphragm chamber (5) and then delivered through the pipe (14) to the lower chamber (6) and finally expelled through the outlet (16).</p> |
