This printing process, which is carried out by means of printing forms, comprises a first printing operation reproducing all parts of the image, performed with an inking density allowing high fidelity of reproduction of the medium and light tones of the image, and at least one complementary printing operation, performed in overprinting with respect to the first, by means of a printing form arranged so as to reproduce only the parts of the image which have dark tones, this complementary operation being performed with a low inking density. The aim of this process is to obtain better fidelity of reproduction of the pattern of tints than in the case of known half tone printing processes, the range of tones of the print being virtually as wide as that of photographs.
