<p>The present invention relates to a novel process whereby a 3-exomethylenecepham sulfoxide ester is reacted with a mixture of a C1-C4 carboxylic acid and a corresponding C1-C4 acid anhydride at a temperature of from about 70.degree.C. to about 130.degree.C. to produce the corresponding 3-acyloxymethyl-.DELTA.2-cephem, which is useful as an intermediate in the preparation of antibiotically active cephalosporins.</p> |
