The telescopic stem allows water to flow through, and accommodates tools such as brushes, scrapers, paint rollers etc. At the mounting end of the extensible tube portion (1) is a screwed nipple (2) with union nut (3) for securing the tool with corresponding teeth (11), this nipple being pressed into the tube end. A sliding sleeve acting as a guard fits over the tube portion, and has internal locking teeth to prevent turning. Turning can be prevented by a sleeve (5) secured to the tube, and with a boss (6) formed on it, engaging in a mating groove in the sliding sleeve.
