Polyurea foams are made by reacting (a) a polyisocyanate, (b) >=1 catalyst, (c) water and (d) 0.05-50 pts. wt. per 100 pts. wt. polyisocyanate of a plasticiser comprising >=1 alkanolamine with a mol. wt. of 47-2000, >=1 OH gp. and >=1 amino gp. Suitable plasticisers are N-(2-hydroxyethyl) 1,2-diaminoethane, 2-dimethylaminoethanol, mono-, di- and tri-isopropanolamine, tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane, mono- and di-ethanolamine and esp. triethanolamine (I). Addn. of the alkanolamine plasticiser gives improved rising profile to the foam system and gives foams with improved properties, more open cells, and reduced void content.
|
