The fan(3) is intended for cooling the heat exhanger for the coolant of a liquid-cooled vehicle combustion engine in which the fan drive is independent from the engine. The fan is driven by a turbine(16, 17) which itself is driven by the coolant flow. The turbine may be a radial-flow unit arranged within the fan hub(13). There may be a connection between the inlet(24) and the outlet side(26) of the turbine regulated by a control element(10), which may be a pressure relief valve, or a thermostatic valve. The thermostatic valve may be respond to the coolant temp.
