The reflection-type silencer for IC engines consists of an enclosed casing divided into three chambers (K1, K2, K3) by internal partitions (14, 15). The gas inlet pipe (Ro) traverses two chambers (K3, K1) to open into the third but has throttling perforations (17) communicating with the second (K1). Internal pipes (R1, R2) are used, both with throttled entry through side perforations (20, 22) and open outlet ends and each forming a resonator with one inlet chamber, they reverse the flow in parallel into the third chamber (K3). There flow is reversed again, into the outlet pipe (R3), also with throttled entry through side perforations (26) inside the third chamber, with which it makes a third resonator.
