<p>A pneumatic or hydraulic actuator (1) has a flexible tapered pipe (2) mounted between rigid end covers. Each end of the pipe (2) is wrapped around a ring (4, 5) which is then clamped between two discs (6, 8, 7, 9). The wall (2) of the pipe is initially folded several times along circumferential lines so that the folds (10) fit one inside the other. When fluid at pressure is supplied through the hole (11) the pipe expands longitudinally and the folds are straightened out. The pipe is made of a fibre reinforced material coated with rubber.</p> |
