The compsn., emulsifiable in water, comprises an organic polyisocyanate admixed with at least 1 pt. but less than 5 pts., based on 100 pts. isocyanate, of a surfactant of formula: RO(CH2CH2O)nCONHX (where R = 1-4C alkyl; n = a whole no. such that the cpd. contains >=5 oxyethylene radicals; X = residue of a polyisocyanate and contains >=1 free isocyanate radical). Used as binders in the mfr. of lignocellulosic sheet or bodies by hot pressing, the lignocellulose material also opt. contg. inorganic material such as glass fibres, asbestos. Also as adhesives and surface coatings. The presence of the surfactant in about 4% gives a storage-stable emulsions.
