The membrane cylinder has a membrane tensioned in a housing, and which, when pressure is applied, acts against a plate attached to a pressure rod. Inserted in the housing (1) of the membrane cylinder is a rolling filling piece which reduces the effective surface of the membrane. The filling piece is ring-shaped, and is fitted on the inside of the housing between the membrane (3) and the floor of the cylinder. It is made of plastics filter material, and covers a vent hole passing through the housing. A further filling piece is inserted in the chamber (7) which serves for the application of pressure on the membrane, reducing the so-called "damage space".
