Raw materials with an oil and fat content, such as suet and other byproducts of abattoirs, are processed by reducing the size to under 15 x 15 mm and by feeding the paste to a vertical cylinder. This is surrounded on its shell by heating jackets, using steam or a liquid. Revolving scraper arms distribute the material in a uniform thin layer over the inside walls. This processing method generates neither liquid wastes nor waste gases so that it does not pollute the environment. The product is treated gently so that the formation of fatty acids or peroxide is eliminated.
