Polyurethane coating compsns. prepared with castor oil are obtd. by reacting an aromatic di-isocyanate with a mixt. of castor oil and trimethylolpropane (TMP) to give a preliminary addn. prod. contg. NCO gps., which is then cross-linked with castor oil or with a mixt. of castor oil and TMP. The preliminary reaction with a mixt. of castor oil and TMP yields a prod. which can be easily cured at room temp. and impart sufficient hardness to complex forms, e.g. artificial organs, without showing any tendency to swell in aq. soln. Pref. the compsns. are used to coat membranes used in dialysis with selective action, esp. for haemodialysis. They can also be used to form hollow filaments, etc.
