A horizontal rail conveyor has platens 6 running on rails 2 on wheels 8 powered by electric motors 10 carried on upright, castoring, trunnions at a square pitching. Transfer from a first pair of rails 22 to a second pair of rails is effected by halting the platen in register with four rails turntables 64 initially aligned with the first pair of rails 22, rotating the rail turntables through 90 DEG into alignment with the second pair of rails 18 and re- energising the electric motors 10. <IMAGE> |
