Method of sealing a sintered metal article to make it liquid tight under pressure comprises (i) compacting powdered metal to the required configuration of the article and at least 75% theoretical density, (ii) subjecting the article to a partial vacuum to draw gases from the voids present in the article, (III) immersing the article in a liquid polymerizable impregnant which is forced into the article under pressure and (iv) curing the article by immersion in a hot liquid bath at 265-285 degrees F with an added pressure of 10-100 lb./sq. in. to polymerize the impregnant and render it solid. Subsequent machining of the article does not disturb the filling within the pores. The filling of the pores provides lubricating qualities suitable for machining.
|
