<p>The appts. consists of a welding transformer fed with 220V130A, or 380V-16A by a metered mains electricity supply, and fitted with an electronic timer. The sec. of the transformer is connected by cables to two welding electrodes mounted on a pair of hand tongs, and used for spot welding metal sheets ca. 3mm max. in thickness during the mfr. of motor car bodies; and the timer can be adjusted from 0.5-2.5 seconds. The tongs are also fitted with a push button switch remote from, but connected to, the timer. The tow electrodes are pref. mounted on the tongs via arms providing electrical- and thermal- insulation for the handles; and each arm ends in a sockke in which an electrode can be clamped. The tong handles can also be clamped in their closed position. Satisfactory spot welds can be carried out on two sheets each 3mm thick, i.e. total thickness 6mm, even when the mains supply is restricted to 220V-30A or 380V-16A.</p> |
