Cleaning compsn. for brushes, esp. paint brushes, comprises by vol. 40-70 (55)% xylene; 20-40 (24)% isobutanol; 10-30 (14)% ethylene glycol; 2-10 (5)% emulsifier and 1-5 (2)% water. The emulsifier is pref. an alkylbenzene sulphonate (esp. degradeable) opt. together with nonionic fatty acid polyglycol esters and ethers. Compsn. is inexpensive, safe to use and cleans brushes more effectively and more quickly than known formulations. It can also be used to restore hardened brushes.
