Scrubbing waste gases - uses slurry produced by adding calcium carbonate to weakly acid wash liq.

Scrubbing of waste gases, e.g. from burning of refuse, comprises first adjusting the wash liq. to be weakly acid, pref. pH 4-5. CaCO3, pref. finely powdered chalk, is then added. The slurry produced is used as scrubbing liq., esp. for the removal of HCl and HF. The method does not produce scaling in the scrubbing plant and only 1/5-1/6 of the wash liq. need be removed to give a clear prod.
