The package (14) and lining are erected and the bottom sealed. The top has two opposing flaps (11a, 13a), each half the opening width, and two longer adjacent opposing flaps (12a, 14a) which overlap. The lining is fixed to all four flaps so that, when presented to the machine with these vertical, the lining mouth (32) is automatically open. After filling, the long flaps (12a, 14a) are returned horizontally outwards, which pulls the short flaps (11a, 13a) inwards. These can be closed flat, trapping the lining between them and leaving a length (34) free for sealing. The long flaps are then closed over and sealed. An easy open tab (40, 41, 80, 81) is provided.
