Caulking compsns. for sealing ovens - contg. silicone oil, metal oxide, filler and hydrated alkaline earth metal oxide

High-temp. caulking compsns. for sealing oven closures (esp. in coke ovens) comprise: (a) 19-23 (pref. 19-22)% of a high-temp. silicone oil, (b) 20-34 (pref. 23-29)% of a thermally conductive white metal oxide, (c) 20-34 (pref. 23-29)% of an inert particulate filler, and (d) 22-35 (pref. 26-32)% of a hydrated alkaline earth metal oxide. The compsns. are semi-fluid putty-like materials which are self-adhesive and adhesive to metal surfaces at temps. up to 1200 degrees F. They dry to a crushable powder which is easily removed, e.g. at the end of a coking cycle.
