PURPOSE:To produce acrylamide or methacrylamide from acrylonitrile using specific acrylonitrile-assimilable microbials. CONSTITUTION:Acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile is brought into contact with cells of bacteria belonging to Corynebacterium or Nocardia genus, and assimilable of acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile, e.g. Corynebacterium N-771, N-774, Nocardia N- 775, etc., treated cells, or cultured product. For example an aqueous suspension containing 1-10 wt% of bacterial cells and 0.5-5 wt% of acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile are made to react at 25-30 deg.C and pH7-9 for 0.5-10 hours. |
