PURPOSE:To manufacture an additive serving as desulfurizing agent for iron steel and also as graphite spheroidizing agent for cast iron, acting mildly and with high yield, by the procedure in which Mg vapor is rapidly cooled by an inert gas containing CO to obtain a fine mixture powder composed of Mg, MgO, and C, and then the mixture is pelletized by a resin. CONSTITUTION:Mg vapor obtained by heating metallic Mg or a Mg alloy is cooled rapidly by an inert gas, e.g., Ar, He, N, etc., containing CO. The Mg vapor is solidified into a fine particles and at the same time reacted partially with CO to form MgO and C, where MgO and C are mixed together and the MgO-C mixture covers over the surfaces of fine Mg particles. The mixture is than pelletized by an acrylic resin, etc., and the pelletized mixture is used as a desulfurizing agent for molten steel and also as a graphite spheroidizing agent for cast iron, which moderately reacts with molten steel because the surfaces of the fine Mg partilces are covered with MgO and resin. And, the Mg becomes fine Mg vapor bubbles and then reacts with molten steel, so that the yield of Mg is excellent. |
