<p>PURPOSE:To increase efficiency for removing malodorant, by bringing gas to be treated, contg. NH3, H2S, and mercaptanes, into contact with basic soln. of hypochlorous acid, then by making the gas contg. oxidizing chlorine and residual malodorous components contact with an acidic soln. CONSTITUTION:The gas to be treated is introduced through an inlet pipe 5 into an oxidizing absorption tower 1, into which a soln. of hypochlorous acid prepared in a storage tank 8 to a pH not lower than 8 is admitted in drops by means of a circulation pump 9 in order to remove malodorous components. In that case, NH3 is oxidized to N2 or nitrogen oxides, and H2S to colloidal surfur, sulfuric acid, or sulfate which are absorbed by the soln. or released into the gas having been treated, while CH3SH remains as CH3SSCH3. Therefore, the gas at the outlet of the tower 1 is led to another oxidizing absorption tower 2, where residual malodorous components (CH3)2S2 etc. is oxidized and removed with oxidizing chlorine by circulating the soln. of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid etc. at a pH not higher than 3, the chlorine which is generated from, and accompanied by, the circulating soln.</p> |
