<p>The device is fixed in a tube closed at one end and is formed so as to present a large surface to the soln. being tested,and to permit the soln. to pass to the end of the tube. The material from which the device is made permits a degree of elastic deformation to hold the device in the tube, and is capable of fixing a biological compound from the soln. or its specific antagonist compound, e.g. an antigen or the antibody. Nylon is preferred. The length of the device will be such that it is just submerged in the soln. The device may have the form of a cylindrical sleeve having longitudinal ribs, pref. curved over at their ends, engaging the inner surface of the tube. Alternatively, the device may have an elastic head part fixing it into the tube and a spiral part beneath it. The head is pref. pierced witha central aperture to allow the soln. to pass. The device is used in analyses of solns. of biological compounds which interact e.g. forming a complex. Thus it can be used to fix the marked and unmarked antigen-antibody complex in a radio-immunological analysis. The devices can produced consistent results, being manufacturable in standard identical form.</p> |
