Title compds. (I; R = H, Me, acetyl, R1 = Me, Ph), useful sedative, and their acid addition salt were prepd. by alkylation norbenzomorphane II with III (X = neuclephilically eliminable group such as halogen atom of Cl, Br, and I aralkylsulfonyloxy or alkylsulfonyloxy) in the presence of acid binding agent such as triethylamine, dicyclohexylethylamine, etc.
