<p>Thin film of the liq. is introduced into an atmos. of the gas held at a pressure above atmospheric in a contacting vessel. As the film falls through the vessel it is turned by oppositely inclined baffles to present changing surfaces to the gas. Pref. the contacting vessel is a vertical, cylindrical column. Liq. is fed to the top of the column to run down over a series of coaxial, conically dished plates arranged in pairs, convex side uppermost then concave side uppermost etc. The quantity of gas to be dissolved in the liq. can be controlled by adjusting the surface area of liq. film in contact with the gas and/or adjusting the temp. of the liq. and/or adjusting the gas pressure. The pressure of the gas can be automatically controlled w.r.t. the relationship between the pH values of the incoming liq. and the discharged liq. after saturation. Provides satn. of a liq. with a gas etc. for the neutralisation of an alkaline effluent with CO2 gas. Such effluents occur commonly from food factories, concrete industry, etc.</p> |
