The apparatus consists of a frame (1) carrying two levers (2) for the feet and two levers (3) for the hands. The levers, having the form of cranks, are adjustable in terms of position and are connected by chains (6, 7) engaging on toothed wheels (9, 10, 13, 14). The mechanical power expended by the user is taken up by the losses, by means of friction, in the transmission assembly or, if these losses are insufficient, by means of a brake or energy converter such as an alternator or a dynamo. In order to use the apparatus as a mechanotherapy device, the energy converter is combined with a motor in order to assist the user in his movements. <IMAGE>
