Grinder for out of round or eccentric work - uses grinding wheels dressed to suit work and rotated synchronously with work

The grinding machine incorporates a number of grinding discs which are mounted with their axis parallel to the centreline of the workpiece. The grinding discs are dressed out of round, to correspond to the shape of the workpiece. The grinding discs and the workpiece are rotated synchronously at a certain transmission ratio which is a whole number. The various grinding discs are angularly offset to suit the positions of e.g. the cams on the workpiece.
