<p>Prodn. of a polymer compsn. (A) contg. a physiologically active substance (I) comprises combining >=1 polymerisable monomer (II) and (I) in a specific form (which may be a soln., suspension, microsphere or liq. film), then irradiating with ionising radiation or light at below room temp to polymerise (II). Pref. (I) and (II) are combined in presence or absence of a crystallisable substance, when an adsorbant (B) added and the mixt. irradiated at 0 degree C. (B) is esp. gelatine, agar, collagen, active carbon, silica gel, kaolin or an ion exchange resin. (I) is dispersed or simply mixed in a soln. made of a (co)polymer, soluble at pH 1-10, and (II), then polymerised. (I) is released at a controllable rate determined eg. by the nature of (II) and presence or amt. of (B). Use of low temp. polymerisation avoids decompsn. of (I) and need for a catalyst. (I) can be any pharmaceutical for use in human or veterinary medicine, an agricultural chemical, insecticide, growth regulator (for plants or micro-organisms) or cpd. useful in the food and pharmaceutical industries, eg. an enzyme stabiliser or auxiliary.</p> |
