PREPARATION OF COENZYME Q8

PURPOSE:To prepare coenzyme Q8 useful as a pancreatic function excitant, and remedies for bulbospinal paralysis, alveolar ectasia, aplastic anemia, etc., by culturing bacteria belonging to Pseudomonas genus or Metylomonas genus in a medium containing methanol as a main carbon source. CONSTITUTION:Methanol-assiminlable, coenzyme Q8-producing bacteria belonging to Pseudomonas genus or Methylomonas genus, e.g. Pseudomonas methanolis (FERM-P No.224), Methylomonas methanolica NRRL B-5458, etc., are cultured in a medium containing methanol as main carbon source, and pref. containing >= 0.5 ppm of dissolved oxygen, at 2-48 deg.C, pref. 28-42 deg.C, and pH5-10, pref. 6-7.5. After culturing, the bacterial cells are separated from the medium by filtration, centrifugal separation, etc., and the coenzyme is obtained from the bacterial cells.
