<p>prepn. antibacterial antifungal. Title cpds. of formula (I) are prepared by cyclising a cpd. (II) at 0-200 degrees C (pref. 20-100 degrees C) in the presence of a strong acid or pref. an alkaline cpd. (where R = H, =20C hydrocarbon radical, =8C hydroxyalkyl, ring-halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon, pyrimidyl or pyridyl joined via a ring C atom R1 = 20C hydrocarbon radical the aliphatic parts of which are saturated; n = 0-2 Y = Cl, Br, -COOR1, alkoxy, cycloalkoxy, aryloxy, =20C hydrocarbon gp. (opt. substd. by alkoxy, cycloalkoxy, aryloxy, Cl, Br. The Cl and Br being attached to aromatic rings) or two Y's form the residue of a naphthalene ring). The cpds. are useful as antibacterial and antifungal agents and some are stabilisers for photographic emulsions.</p> |
