The lightweight spoked wheel has the hub ends of the spokes formed as plain ends(71) and fitted through profiled slots in the hub. Special sleeves (73) inside the hub are pushed inwards to grip the spoke ends with slots and secure the spokes without any special rivetting or welding. The sleeves are of a harder material than the spokes and cut into the spokes to form fitting slots. The whole operation is performed using a press. The outer ends of the spokes are hooked into holes in the wheel rims.
