The SiO2 dust produced during the mfg. of silicon and silicon alloys in conventional furnaces can be mixed with 20-25% water, pelletised, sintered at 600-1200 degrees C without necessity to pre-dry and used as a source of SiO2 for other manufacturing processes. The pellets are best produced from dust from manufacture of Fe 75% Si, but other sources are possible. They have high strength when sintered, their strength increasing and the dust produced by handling decreasing with increasing sintering temps.
|
