A numerically controlled multi- spindle lathe includes a number of work supporting spindles 12 and a different number of numerically controlled tool supporting spindles 13. The work supporting spindles 12 are so disposed in a circle on a spindle box 11 and are adapted to be successively shifted to at least one work machining position and to a work replacing position, and the tool supporting spindles 13 are arranged at positions respectively confronting the work supporting spindles 12 in the work machining positions but not the work replacing position(s).
