An elongated locating member is employed to locate a molten metallic body for treating a glass ribbon in contact with a surface of the ribbon. A wettable surface region of the locating member to which the molten metallic body clings is demarcated by a surface layer of a material which is not wetted by the glass. The invention is particularly applicable to the use of such a member for locating a molten metallic body on the upper surface of a ribbon of glass in float glass manufacturing apparatus.
