Primer charge destruction method for munitions - uses laser beam to destroy fuse primer explosives with result checked by sound or X=ray techniques

Munitions are neutralised for use for instructural purposes destroying the explosive in the primer, without dismantling and with the fuse in position. The primer primary and secondary charges are neutralised by a laser beam through the fuse. The laser beam characteristics, wavelength, energy etc. are decided after experiment and consideration of the design of the fuse. The effect of the laser beam on the sealing of the projectile is minimised by sealing with resin, mechanical reinforcement or any other means. Checking is by sound or X-ray techniques.
