Desizing fabric with PVA size - using treatment liquor contg. alkali peroxide sulphate plus alkali mono-carboxylic salt and sodium formate

Fabrics with polyvinyl alcohol size are desized by treating with an aqueous liquor containing 1-20 g/l alkali peroxide sulphate and 0.5-5 g/l alkaline salt of a 1-4C monocarboxylic acid e.g. sodium formate; the treatment is at 18 degrees-70 degrees C and the liquor has a pH 5-12. It is preferable to add 5-300 g/l caustic alkali, to combine desizing with pretreatment. The liquor is applied in any usual way for a period which depends upon temp. thereafter the material is washed and processed as usual. Process is suitable for fabrics contg. or wholly made of cellulose without oxidation degradation of the cellulose.
