[Also in Divisions B7, E2 and F2] The static lines 25 (Fig. 1, not shown) of parachutes are attached by rings 24 to a cable 12 in an aircraft, the cable having a detachable portion to enable a series of static lines and parachute bags to be readily detached from the cable 12. The detachable portion comprises a tube 15 attached to the cable 12 by spring tongues 14 which fit inside the tube and are spread apart by a rod 16. The tube 15 is fixed to the aircraft by jaws 23 engaging a pin 28 on the tube. The jaws hold the rod 16 in engagement with the tongues 14, and the portion may be detached by opening the jaws 23 and pulling the rod axially by a link 20, e.g. by deploying a parachute attached to the link 20. As the static line rings slide on to the tube they pass one or more latches 26 which prevents their return. |
